What are shampoo bars?
A shampoo bar is a solid soap, formulated specifically for washing hair. Shampoo bars are 100% soap, unlike most commercially manufactured shampoos which are actually detergents. They are made using the same process of handmade soaps, usually with fragrance and sometimes with other ingredients, like essential oils and herbs.
A good example of shampoo bars are Adunni Organics Shampoo Bars which are specially crafted with natural plant oils, botanical infusions, rich butters, and many other great ingredients to nurture your hair and scalp. They are truly an exquisite delight!
What are the differences between Shampoo Bars and commercial shampoo?
First of all, shampoo bars are usually handmade with natural ingredients, so they don’t contain harsh chemicals like Artificial Preservatives, Paraben, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate (SLES), Sodium Chloride, , Silicone, Tetrasodium EDTA, and many other chemicals and detergents that you will find if you read the labels on almost all commercial shampoos.
Shampoo bars are made with oils and butters that are rich in hair loving properties. A raw honey shampoo bar, for example contains Honey, Shea Butter, EVOO, Acovado Oils, etc. that you would normally use to do a DC. Using this product is basically like washing your hair with these oils, just that your hair gets clean while it is being infused with their richness.
So a shampoo bar contains none of the bad stuff, and plenty of the great stuff. It is also much cheaper, and is actually easier to use once you get the hang of it!
Why are shampoo bars gaining popularity?
More people today are concerned about the environment and are looking for products with minimal artificial ingredients and chemicals. Handmade soaps generally use products that will suit the needs of those that are looking for better health alternatives, and that want to make a difference in caring for our environment. The big companies are now following suit and promoting shampoo bars since there is a desire for a more “natural” approach and healthier lifestyles!
Why Should I Switch to a Shampoo Bar?
Shampoo bars are;
Handmade, and usually natural or organic, and free of harsh and sometimes dangerous chemicals
Easy to use and less expensive
Travel friendly (no messy spilling in your luggage and no Airport Security hassles)
Safe for colour treated hair, natural or relaxed hair
How To Use Shampoo Bars to Wash Your Hair
- Wet your hair and lather the bar in your hand or in your hair, and gently massage your scalp.
- Use soft water to wash your hair whenever possible.
- Follow up with your conditioner, if you feel you need to, but a good shampoo bar conditions your hair so that you don’t need to do anything else after using it.
- If you do not have soft water, we recommend you to follow up with an acid rinse using Apple Cider Vinger, to restore the natural pH of your hair and to give you that shiny and silky look.
- Give it a few tries for your hair to adjust.
